Autopatrol

[edit]
I would like to overwrite an image file on Commons in order to upload a partial restoration made by me of it. I know that, from 2019 circa to the first months of 2021, I edited pages and overwrote files without following the rules and for this I extend to the community my deepest excuses; now, I have grown up and I am conscientious about what I do here. Thank you very much in advance. Jilligate (talk) 16:06, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Edit count is still low. I'd definitely want to see more. Abzeronow (talk) 16:13, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On Commons or in the whole Wikipedia? Jilligate (talk) 16:27, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to be able to add higher quality versions of PD files which had their quality degraded by a bot, thanks! Wiiformii (talk) 02:43, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm requesting the autopatrol right since I would like to replace some images that need updating. As I would have to replace 18 images, it would be difficult to request them as exceptions, so I'm requesting autopatrol instead. Thank you! Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 22:23, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, my thoughts on your request. I do see that you're extended confirmed on enwiki. Joined Dec 2023, approx. 330 edits. I'd prefer 500, but I don't see any major issues with edits so far. I'll wait a few more days to see if anyone objects before making a decision on this request. Abzeronow (talk) 20:22, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have been editing for years and mainly contribute to maps and other files related to WikiProject Eurovision on Wikipedia, most of which weren't initially created by myself. Due to the amount I contribute within that space, it would be very much appreciated if I could be granted autopatrol privileges rather than wasting people's time with constant exception requests. Thank you very much! Aris Odi ❯❯❯ talk 12:25, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
116 edits is still a bit low. Abzeronow (talk) 16:38, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know that number is a bit low for commons, however, as of writing this I have 835 edits on the English Wikipedia. Most of my changes on commons involve minor changes to maps and other files for WikiProject Eurovision. I am a trusted user within that project so it would be helpful if I could be granted these privileges, however, I understand if that may not be possible at this stage. Thank you for your assistance. I have been editing a small number of maps for a few years: African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfricanContinentalFreeTradeArea.svg), countries with tobacco plain packaging schemes (Plain_packaging.svg), etc. Even though I am not the creator of these maps, I am often their main updater. Creating new versions may be an option, but it could imply that articles in some linguistic versions of Wikipedia would remain outdated for a while. Thank you. Ydecreux (talk) 07:30, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the overwriting template to the two maps mentioned. Long tenure, but edit count under 100. Abzeronow (talk) 15:45, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Ydecreux (talk) 20:04, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I make frequent edits to SVGs, mainly updating, optimizing, and refining. Recently, I've been trying to change up some site logos for deployment onto wikis, but I'm unable to make even minor changes to files (e.g. resizing) due to the overwrite limitation. It'd be a great help to have autopatrol so that I don't have to ask for permission to overwrite many different SVG files, be it site logos or other SVGs that I work on. Thank you! ✓ Granted. -- CptViraj (talk) 11:49, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Following the suggestion by user Chuck. I respectfully request "autopatrol" in order to decrease the work of our patrollers on my uploads and edits, as they don't need regular patrolling due to their good quality. Thank you!

Template editor

Dear Admins, I am requesting this right to create a set of templates for multiple photo campaigns Wiki Loves Onam, Astro Photography Campaign. I am a Bureaucrat in Malayalam wikipedia. I created some campaign pages in commons. I created and maintained some templates in metawiki, Malayalam wikipedia and in commons. I have a good knowledge in creating templates and modules. Hope I can use this right to make commons a better place Thank you. Ranjithsiji (talk) 07:44, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ranjithsiji, but you can still create a template without being a template editor? Are you asking about the Upload Wizard campaign editors' right? Regards, Aafi (talk) 15:38, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. I already had Upload Wizard campaign editor. But when I create a css file for a template it is not rendering. Also the template is not working properly. So I think that Template Editor right is required to create templates with css files. Am I right ? Ranjithsiji (talk) 14:47, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, it isn’t required. The only problem with Template:Wiki_Loves_Onam_menu/styles.css was that it was created in a wrong namespace. Even though it was then moved to the template namespace, it was too late to fix the problem without sysop privileges. Template editors don’t have the necessary editcontentmodel right. But you don’t need that if you create the CSS files in the right place, i.e. as template subpages with the .css file extension. --Geohakkeri (talk) 14:59, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done per Geohakkeri. Regards, Aafi (talk) 15:37, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Filemover

See also: Renaming guideline.
Hello, dear administrators. I am requesting to have the status of filemover in order to rename misspelled files as part of the "Wiki Loves Earth Photos. Indeed, these photos aretaken in Benin's national parks whose names are misspelled. I need to be filemover to put the correct names to the files" photography contest in Benin Thank you. Chado07 (talk) 22:24, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 Oppose only 2 FM requests, needs more experience. Waqar💬 08:52, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Not done Thank you for taking part in the photography contest. People willing to contribute IRL are rare and valuable. But you probably still need a bit more experience at Commons, and FMing in particular. GMGtalk 12:23, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello to all administrators. I am mainly working on building a reliable wiki database of native plant species (wikipedia, wikispecies, wikimedia commons, wikidata). I often upload photos that capture important morphological traits of each plant species, and sometimes those species is correctly identified after uploading. New species are often discovered, especially in the orchid family, and reclassifications are often made. It is important for our purposes that the file name of the image represents the correct species name based on the latest classification. To facilitate the above editing process, I request "Filemover" privileges. Thank you. BeautifulMedia (talk) 05:59, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I would like to apply for the Filemover right to rename files. I joined Wikimedia in 2016 and currently have over 310,000 edits on Commons. I frequently upload content from government sources, both domestic and international, such as the White House, Department of State, Department of Defense, 10 Downing Street, and the UK government. I also make extensive use of Flickr2Commons as a tool to transfer these files. However, some of the file names posted on the Flickr accounts can be ambiguous or meaningless. I believe I can help improve these names to make them more descriptive. Additionally, Flickr2Commons can be a bit finicky. For instance, if you upload an album and one file already exists on Commons with a different name, Flickr2Commons cannot recognize it correctly, resulting in duplicates on Commons. With the Filemover tool, I could leave a redirect link, helping to prevent such duplicates and ensuring that files have more appropriate names. Thank you. Thanks @GreenMeansGo for granting this long overdue request. They have 10,000's of bad or "meaningless file names" for the over 94,000+ photographs they have uploaded. See: Category:Files uploaded by RandomUserGuy1738 Thank you again, -- Ooligan (talk) 20:58, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I've been on Commons for roughly 5 years and experienced some occasions where moving files might be appropiate (in my own files and in other people's files; often misspellings). I think its useful to do it by myself instead of annoying someone else doing it :). I upload files that I created and from third sources --PantheraLeo1359531 😺 (talk) 17:21, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support fantastic work, will be put to good use. All the best -- Chuck Talk 23:02, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
